Back to Reality

I spent the long weekend in Seabrook Island, SC with my husband.  The weather was perfect, the drinks were flowing and the food, oh, the food. If you are ever in the Seabrook or Kiawah area, I can’t recommend The Fat Hen on John’s Island enough.  It was so incredible, I forgot to take pictures. What kind of sorry blogger am I?  I hope you will let it slide!

Fat Hen

For the Lady:

SEARED GROUPER

* local succotash, butter beans, corn, leeks, Swiss chard, bacon, tomato, beurre blanc sauce

For the Gent:

THE RIB

* 16oz pecan smoked, BBQ bone in short rib, pomme frites

I have never had grouper so delicious in my life. Beurre blanc you say? I say there was at least half a stick of butter in that sauce! The rib was outstanding as well.  Falling off the bone. I love it when the guys order the good stuff so you can snag a few bites.

For dessert: Peach cobbler, popover style with vanilla bean ice cream.  Homestyle perfection.

Over the course of the weekend, I guzzled at least half a dozen Moultrie’s Holidays-a sweet and fruity cocktail made with vanilla vodka, Malibu rum, and pineapple juice. I tried convincing myself this was healthier than a piña colada, but then realized that I was wasting my time thinking about such absurd things on my vacation.

When you indulge in decadent meals and sample martinis for sport, it is critical to step up your exercise game so you can do it again next weekend to maintain a healthy life balance.  I could bore you to tears with my “everything in moderation” motto, but I won’t do that to you guys.  Let’s just say that for every grilled pizza or Outrageous BLT I consume, there are more salads (and magic vegetables) where that came from.

When we returned from the beach late Monday evening, I began to dread my 2.5 hour dance class on Tuesday night that I signed up for with one of my best and dearest friends. The only thing  I could think of was that I really need a new dance/gym/name-that-workout bag! My current bag is old, faded, and harvesting strains of bacteria of which I can only imagine.  A new bag is in order! It will make working out slightly less dreadful (I think!)

Jack Spade Duffel (on sale for $70),  Herschel Strand Bag ($60), Under Armour Define Duffel ($60), adidas by Stella McCartney Big Carry On Bag ($150) Also in Leopard!!,

I would sport each of these to the gym, dance, yoga, pilates, etc. I find myself developing some serious emotions about the leopard print adidas by Stella McCartney bag. Which one is your favorite? How do you try to balance food-filled weekends with a healthy lifestyle?

Let me know in the comments (I really love them!)

Thanks for reading!

  1. You’re lucky you had great weather… every time I travel with James it rains haha. Even in places it never rains. I wanna go there someday! xo

  2. I balance my weekend food and adult beverage intake with interval walk/runs, bootcamp style workouts, and 2.5 hours of dance every Tuesday with my oldest and most wonderful friend! Oh, and by the way, that drink sounds amazing…recipe?

  3. Work hard play hard! Literally, just pour vanilla vodka (I like Stoli Vanil) and Malibu into a glass with some pineapple juice (or other tropical juice of choice). No point in pretending it’s any classier than that!

  4. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog.
Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself?

Either way keep up the excellent quality writing,
it’s rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays.
