Birthday at Barrington’s

As you are surely aware by now, I LOVE to eat good food.  While great presentation and fine ingredients are a plus, food does not need to be fancy for me to appreciate it!

That said, I had a wonderfully fancy (yet unfussy) meal at Barrington’s in Charlotte to celebrate my 28th year.

I had not dined at Barrington’s since 9th grade-when Margherita pizza and well-done steak dominated my restaurant orders.  Oh how the tides have turned!

As my first course, I ordered the Tega Hills greens with crispy falafel, Greek yogurt and a lemon vinaigrette.

The salad was tasty.  The lemon vinaigrette was tangy and the falafel was very flavorful!

The size was nothing to sneer at!

For my main course, I ordered the slow braised beef short rib with horseradish and cauliflower purée, potato gratin, broccoli and a red wine reduction.

It was my birthday, so I went for it! It was AMAZING. The short rib was fork tender and I was pretty much obsessed with the horseradish and cauliflower purée.

And…

Apricot and lavender upside down cake with apricot purée, almonds and honey buttermilk ice cream.  This is what I am talking about. I like chocolate, but when it comes to dessert I am more of a vanilla almond type of girl.  The lavender flavor was so subtle but incredibly delicious. If you’ve never tried lavender in a dessert (LAVENDAR ICECREAM IS AMAZING!!) give it a try!

Before rolling ourselves out of there, we managed to take a couple of pictures!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen this (my sincerest apologies) but many thanks to my husband for this incredible meal. I am so happy that you appreciate good food as much as I do!

Sorry guys, we could not seem to get a group shot with everyone’s eyes open. Not pictured, John Paul’s brother James! Maybe next time…

The food and service at Barrington’s was great and I would absolutely return for a special occasion. The portions were a generous size without being overwhelming. The ambience is cozy and inviting. Take your loved one(s) for a night to remember!

I know I sure will!
